Allergies at Deer Run

Dear Families of Deer Run,

There are students here with allergies to nuts, sesame and sunflower.  Please do not send food for lunch or snacks that contain these products.  This includes peanut butter, nutella, sunbutter and or anything containing sesame seeds.
It is important that we keep our vulnerable students safe from allergic reactions due to exposure to these products.
Thank you for understanding.  Contact me if you have any questions.

Warm regards,
Karen Riccio, RN

Flu Shot

PreK Families

PreK Families,

The State of Connecticut requires that all children enrolled in PreK to receive a flu shot by December 31, 2026.  I recommend scheduling an appointment with his/her pediatrician soon.  I prefer to have these flue shots documented prior to the winter school break which begins on December 23, 2026.  Unfortunately, without proper documentation, your PreK student will be excluded when school resumes on 1/4/26.

You may contact me if you have questions.
Warm Regards,
Karent Riccio, RN

Your Child's Attendance Matters!

Why Attendance Matters

Academic Achievement

Students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve academic success, graduate on time and pursue higher education opportunities.

Social and Emotional Development

School provides a safe and supportive environment where students develop social skills, build friendships and enhance their emotional well-being.

Future Success

Regular attendance instills valuable habits such as punctuality, responsibility, and commitment, which are essential for success in life.

Attendance Tips

Encourage a love of learning - Foster a positive attitude towards school and learning by engaging in educational activities with your child at home.  If there are areas where your child’s school or academic experience can improve, we encourage you to speak with your school principal or educator.

Schedule appointments outside of school hours - Schedule doctor's appointments, dental check-ups, and other appointments during non-school hours.  Even missing a half day of school for an appointment can be disruptive to your child’s academic experience.

Establish a consistent routine - Ensure your child stays healthy, gets enough sleep, and has ample time to prepare for school each morning.  If you are in need of transportation, please contact your child’s principal.

Communicate with the school - Keep your child’s school updated on reasons for absences, such as illnesses or challenges that impact their attendance.
